Watch coins be crushed by a hydraulic press. I explain how coins being crushed by a hydraulic press is similar to compressing a spring. When the copper or nickel or zinc is compressed, the crystal lattice of the metal is compressed slightly. If you do not press the coins too much then the results is an elastic spring-like behavior that cause the coins to explode
The goal of this crush is to show that when the metal coins are released from the pressures of the press that they spring back to their original shape with great force. Although there are some coins that were pressed by the hydraulic press past the elastic region.
I show a before and after picture of the stack of coins. The hydraulic press crushed the coins (pennies and nickels) by about 75% before the coins slipped out from under the hydraulic press and exploded.
The coins explode with great force causing a whirlwind of coins as they bounce around the containment box. The hydraulic press crushes the pennies and the nickels both by about 75%. I give a recap of the coins being crushed by the hydrualic press after they were crushed. Despite not being able to stack pennies very well in the hydraulic press, the action of seeing the coins crushed was worth the wait.
