In this video I test whether or not pure de-ionized water will ruin electronics. Pure water does not conduct electricity so it shouldn't ruin a device if the water is absolutely pure. I bought some type-2 de-ionized water to test this out. I show how pure water is indeed non-conductive by testing with an ohm meter. Then I show how easily it becomes conductive if you even stick your hand in it. This is because ions from your skin dissolve into the water. So I use gloves to handle a clean phone and put it in pure water. even have it charging during the process so that you can see that the electricity can flow through the correct paths even for higher currents in pure water. Watch and see how long the phone can last under water without being water proof!
