Even non star wars fans know about the Death Star. It's maybe the most iconic doomsday weapon, known for blowing up entire planets. But you could never build a laser that big.... right?
Well maybe. Chemical lasers are the closest real world equivalent and they can pack an immense punch. In this video we explore one such laser called and AGIL or All Gas Iodine Laser which is currently in use by the military.
For those interested in some more specifics about the maths, sixty symbols did a great video breaking it down. 2 notes I'll make quickly that'll make sense once you watch their video. 1) Mount Everest isn't actually that big/massive. A couple good sized asteroids would provide the material for feed stock. 2) Why hypermatter, while BS makes sense. I assume it would be some sort of weird unstable condensed form of matter, of which there are many real world examples. Think metalic hydrogen, or neutronium. Both very real, very sci fi sounding types of matter that contain more than enough energy to blow up a planet. Anyway, see their video for more:
