Focus stacking is a great trick to tease more detail out of the thing you're photographing. By combining many images of the same subject, taken at different focal lengths, you can create extremely deep photos that tend to look very realistic. This is because our eye does this so fast that we don't notice it. So we're used to very deep field images.

This technique works especially well with images under a microscope, or with macrophotography, but can also work well with landscape shots.
