Orchid Care and culture : tips on potting, watering and re-blooming Zygopetalum mackayi. Zygopetalum orchids are fragrant orchids that grow in a cool, moist environments. They like bright light levels but little direct sun and more water than dendrobiums or cattleyas. I place mine outside under the shade of tall trees during the summer months but not in full sun or the leaves will burn. Zygo's are do best with night temperatures of 52 to 58 degrees and daytime temperatures in the low 80's or below.
When watering , soak the orchid mix thoroughly and wait until the center is almost dry before watering again. In the summer this can be every 2-3 days/ winter as little as once every 7 days.
