Opening up the difficult moral problem of charity, particularly in respect to beggars and panhandlers on the subway. This is right in your face in NYC, so I'm forced to think about it all the time. That moment when everyone looks at their feet is so revealing and pathetic. Closing your eyes and hoping it goes away is not something only kids do.
